Aspen Locals take on Battle of the Bowls

The Battle of the Bowls starts with a team meeting at the Merry-Go-Round restaurant, and then the race commences with a short uphill sprint and  then click into your skis and fight to be the first one on the lift.  Each team, composed of two people, are given a GPS and are tested on how quickly they can ski the many bowls of Highlands mountain. The partners must stay together for the duration of the race, with the fastest team winning a prize of $700.

 

There are two categories in this race, a competitive and a non-competitive, for both skiing and snowboarding. The difference being the number of laps on Highlands Bowl. Austin Nelson and Jordan White concluded the 14 run course with a fast time of 3:08:01. The second place team of Anton Sponer and Chase Dillon were close behind with a time of 3:09:28. The Highland Ski Patrol Team, and 2011 Champions finished in third completing the course in 3:14:43. 

 

Jordan White is an accomplished local skier and is best known as being the youngest skier to ski all of the 14ers in Colorado. Austin Nelson is a former ski racer, and in 2003 represented the U.S. in the Deaf Lympics, he is also the co-founder of the Aspen Apres Bike. Congratulations to them both, and to all of the competitors!
